Logline: A GenX Latina in tech regrets her career path until she reconnects with her best friend from high school who regrets going the traditional route.
Pitch 1: IF you liked OLGA DIES DREAMING, then you will like LATINA.BOMB!
Book 1: Desiree Sanchez, 44, has been a Model Rican working hard in tech since 1999. Even though she’s had some successes, she still hasn’t become the First Billionairess of Color to grace the cover of Forbes Magazine. Even worse, the next generation of women in tech are boxing her up as an aging GenX Karen “who uses Facebook!” The nerve! She blames her misfortunes on 9/11, the 2008 recession, and her sexist tech investor Tony Stone, until she goes home to Orlando and discovers the true secret of her unsuccess.
Pitch 2: IF you liked GORDITA CHRONICLES, then you will like MODEL RICANS! (or should we call it MICKEY RICANS??)
Book 2: Desiree Sanchez, 12, is a proud Nuyorican who reluctantly becomes a MickeyRican after her family moves to Orlando in the late 1980s. She eventually befriends Marga Nieves, a recent transplant from Puerto Rico, and Sky Bowman, the blondest boy in school. Her sorted and twisted relationships with both Marga and Sky prove she’s a female sin verguenza con muchas ganas, thus launching her on her “Latina Jack Kerouac Journey” across the country to San Francisco’s tech scene in the late 1990s.
