TheMultiD’s Melanie Feliciano, aka, “Super Gringa” (a Puerto Rican who grew up on the mainland speaking predominately English and cooking Vegan pasteles), recently interviewed Dr. Fritjof Capra, a physicist, author and co-founder of Barrio Solar.
If you haven’t heard about Barrio Solar, it’s a network of volunteers whose goal is to provide solar power kits and gravity lights to rural communities throughout Puerto Rico. You can join Barrio Solar in their efforts by donating to their ongoing crowdfunding campaign.
“Our vision is to have the island of Puerto Rico powered entirely by solar energy,” Dr. Capra said in this remote interview that connected his office in Berkeley with theMultiD in New York.
With the Generosity platform there is no deadline to raise funds. Every 30 days, they disperse funds to purchase more gravity lights and solar panel kits from Amazon.com, which are then distributed by Paz para la mujer, a network of 35 women’s shelters and aid organizations in Puerto Rico. CENSA (Center for the Study of the Americas) is the fiscal sponsor for Barrio Solar.
